Northwest Suburbs of Chicago List of Adult Open Gym Volleyball

[ Todd's Volleyball Page ]

Consider this a very incomplete list of NW open gyms. There are far too many open gyms in Chicago to list them all! Instead, I have put together a small list of gyms that I have actually attended. A mini-review is built into each record. Other open gym lists include: chicagovolleyballinfo.com and f-ox.com

If you're looking to play club volleyball....see the Great Lakes Region USA Volleyball homepage where you can list yourself as a player looking for a team or browse teams looking for players (under the Adults section). I also run the U OK? Men's Volleyball Club based in Palatine, IL. I also know a lot of folks in the Palatine Women's Power Volleyball Organization. Email me if you're interested in PWPVO See the UOK web page if interested in the U OK? club. Teams form in mid-late September each year.

Call the facility before attending because park district schedules often change. Please don't get irate if you go to an open gym and it isn't being run there. Did I mention to call the gym before going?

WHEN: Sundays 6:00pm-10:00pm

From a trusted BB player on 19/September 2003: "Brand new facility in
Schaumburg - I believe they will have both men's and women's nets
available - just passing along the information. Please forward to
anyone that you think might be interested. $3 for residents , $6 for
non-res For more info, directions

WHEN: Mondays and Wednesdays 7:30pm - 11pm
CITY: Mt. Prospect
WHERE: RecPlexx -- Mount Prospect Park District
420 W. Dempster Street Click here for a map
        Mt Prospect, IL 60056
        (847) 640 1000
COST: Res. $5; Non-residents are $8
NOTES: North side of Dempster just west of Elmhurst/83.
Solid BB co-rec play. 5/1 or 6/2 offense usually run. 2 courts.
Nice newer facility. Winning team keeps court. Can get
pretty crowded with USAV teams. Staff is somewhat receptive
to setting up a third court, but sometimes it takes some
cajoling. If you have 2 teams going there, call beforehand
and let them know...maybe they'll put up an extra court at the outset.
Wednesdays seems more popular than Mondays and seem to have a
        stronger level.

WHEN: Most Thursdays 7-10:00 (varies, call to be sure)
CITY: Palatine
WHERE: PALATINE Park District 847 991 0333

COST: $7 non-res, $5 res (with Park District ID)
RUNS: Call 847-991-0333 for updates. Ask for the person that has
the building schedule since it seems to vary on what some people call an Open Gym vs. this Adult Volleyball session. NOTE: 3 courts. Be sure to call, since the gym does not run every Thursday. See schedule in teh Park district catalog at palatineparks.org Check-in process used to be inane, but okay if the staff prepares hand-written receipts beforehand. Nets are always low due to improper net system installation, and lack of staff knowledge on proper setup. Lighting is very poor, no attack lines, and only 5 feet between adjacent courts. Wide skill level with recreational and the lower levels of competitive. Updated: 11/2005. Robert McQuown provided the following info for this page:

Palatine, Winston School, Winston (by Rohlwing) and Palatine Rd. TUE
7-10. Recreational play with teams alternating. Friendly and social.
Avoid if you're a competitive player.

Pavilion, Elk Grove Village, TUE 7-10. Weird pricing structure. I
believe it's $30 for ten weeks, whether you attend or not. There is
space for 3 nets, and the comp. court is solid B/BB level.
